From the books

The Outcast Knight gives a fuller account of the swamp encounter in a memory of Usso's. One night Seraphina Thorn was laughing as she chased a drifting light across a swamp. The mire rose around her, and the Zeraph came up in bark and red tendrils, so huge that her tiny figure froze in its shadow. Usso hid them both with the Amulet of Veiling, pouring the last of its magic out like his own lifeblood. The amulet shattered that night, but they survived. The memory returned to him as he turned the constellation dials of the Radiant Vault.

The creature is familiar enough in Luna to have entered everyday speech. Describing the slums, the narration says the alleys twist in on themselves like the guts of a zeraph.
