Kara Riverfin

Kara of House Kraken: fae: slightly smaller than elves, elemental-descended, and tuned to the living world.

Appearance

Kara is a Water Fae with skin the colour of deep ocean, slick with water that weeps from her pores. When she was found, moss had grown across her shoulders like a shroud. A glowing, swirling brand sits in the centre of her chest, and her eyes are described as being like drowned stars.

In The Outcast Knight

Kara is one of two Fae found chained beneath the Radiant bank during the heist. Held in a cage of anti-magic luminarite, she was struck again and again by shock-snakes, each jolt forcing a tide of water from her body to be drawn off into the city's veins and keep the King's lights burning. The book notes that her rescuers did not yet know her name. She begged them to end it or free her, and silently asked Fi to kill the King for what had been done; Fi answered with a nod.

Ferrin could not open the cage without bringing the bank down on them, and promised to return. On the way out he forced her lock and Fi hauled her free. As they fled, Kara called up a thick, cold, living mist that swallowed the streets and covered their escape to Ferrin's workshop. There Ferrin gave her cuffs charged by Levitas, and she leapt from the alley, rising like a tide answering the moon, and cleared the city walls with Iskander.

After the books

The Scorched Sky is an insult to nature. Kara’s patience thins, and her choices start to feel less like play and more like judgement. She reads the atmosphere like a language and smiles like it’s a secret.
