Saren Serane is Leth's daughter and the dead name beneath his doctrine. He signed her into the tithe, then withdrew his complaint after the Sanctum killed her in a quieting trial. Her joy, her loss, and the file built around both become the story he has been trying not to hear for decades.

In The Channeler

Saren Serane was Leth Serane's daughter, dead before the story begins and remembered through his grief. A Sylph with a gift for holding broken glass in shape while it was sealed, she laughed at the wrong parts of doctrine and believed repair mattered more than purity. When her tithe year came, Leth signed her transfer himself, telling her it would protect her. Two years later a Brother Malrec found her repairing a forbidden storm-mirror, and she was assigned to one of the first quieting trials and died by the next dawn.

Leth filed a complaint and then withdrew it to protect his office and her honour, and Brother Kael later held her file to blackmail him. Leth kept a pane of blue glass from her workbench, clouded by her breath. Her memory finally helped him turn against Kael.

After the books

Her preserved file becomes the lever Kael uses against Leth and the wound Leth finally stops hiding behind. Saren remains dead, but no longer useful as a silence. Leth's confession turns her from hidden shame into evidence.
