Halric works in the practical information systems that keep mountain people connected.

Appearance

Halric looks about sixteen, though he insists with offended dignity that he is twenty-three.

In The Highlander

Halric Frostwell is a clerk at the North Beacon, the luminarite signal tower on the last rise before Luna's outer farms. When the Light began pulsing violet and his captain insisted all was well, Halric sent Eira's blunt warning north without permission, then fretted that he could be dismissed for unauthorised truth. He explained the beacon code to her, which had no colour for violet because the system had no drawer for the impossible, and admitted he had bent it to signal military hazard, royal priority and weather anomaly. He wrote down her Highlander bell patterns, gave her a courier's token for the Spire road, and remarked that Luna could use some relatives. In Eira's eyes his fear became courage by way of paperwork.

After the books

A living keeper of messages and warning routes after the mountain crisis. His intelligence is useful precisely because it is paired with the anxieties of someone young enough to see danger clearly.
