These are the devices worn, flown and carved in Luna: the elven state's, the old city's, and the human faith's. The books name several devices but describe only one: the sunburst of the Eye of Luna.

In the books

  • [Book 1 spoiler]The Eye of Luna's sigil is "a stylised eye encircled by rays", inked at the base of a drawing of the spire.
  • [Book 1 spoiler]People know the name only from Luminarite catechism: "A seer. A teacher. A gift from the Light". Ferrin always took it as metaphor.
  • [Book 1 spoiler]Templar Alesund Moonspear wears "the sunburst sigil of the Eye of Luna" on his breastplate.
  • [Book 1 spoiler]The Royal Guard's Bearcleaver halberds are "etched with the king's sigil". The book doesn't describe that sigil.
  • [Book 1 spoiler]The Royal Guard leader's helm is "crested with worked gold".
  • [Book 1 spoiler]Books can carry "Luna's crest". Elven Luna's banners also fly in Grimsward.

Guard livery

  • [Book 1 spoiler]City Guard: the City Guard wears the Eye of Luna sunburst.
  • [Book 1 spoiler]The king's sigil: a crown over the sunburst. It is distinct from the plain sunburst the City Guard wears: the crown sets the throne over the Light and claims the spire. The Royal Guard, the Royal Guard leader and the king's Bearcleaver halberds bear it.

Civic arms: the crescent moon

  • The crown over the sunburst is the reigning elven royal device. The crescent moon is kept as the city of Luna's own civic arms, an older device on civic and gate work.
  • It is the oath-age city's arms, older than the elves: "Luna" is an Old Speak name and the walls are pre-Fall human and dwarven work. The conquerors kept the arms as they kept the walls. That is why it sits on gates and civic work but not on royal or Creed things, and why the City Guard (the Creed-state's police) wears the sunburst while the gates carry the crescent.
  • It fills the undescribed "Luna's crest" on a civic schedule book without changing book text.

The human faith sign: the Oathstone

  • The Oathstone is the faith symbol of Luna's humans: Artorin's sword, blade-down in the oath-stone. It is never a cross. See the oath faith.
  • The iron grave nail is its grave custom and the poor person's amulet. IVRO is its inscription on formal work.
  • Creed defacement: the hilt chiselled off and a sunburst cut into the stone. Crowbrook's: the hilt struck off and the stone kept, with no sunburst.
