Seraphina ‘Fi’ Thorn: outcast knight, disciplined, relentless, and dangerous precisely because she does not belong. She moves through Luna like a blade that refuses to stay sheathed.
Appearance
Seraphina is a tall, broad-shouldered human woman with jet-black hair and cold, storm-blue eyes. A pale scar runs from her temple to her jaw, left by a skirmish she no longer remembers. When the story opens she wears rusted plate cross-hatched with scars, and carries a bastard sword with a frayed, palm-worn grip and a battered kite shield. For the tournament final she wears a breastplate dark as a raven's wing, edged with fine gold etching but bearing no crest or house sigil.
In The Outcast Knight
Seraphina Thorn, called Fi by those closest to her, is the protagonist of The Outcast Knight. She once served in Luna's royal guard and stood watch inside the Citadel, until she was thrown into the crypt for letting a dwarf slip through the trade district checkpoint. There she found the old words of Old Speak scratched into the walls. Released alongside Usso and Oakren Strom, she was forced to fight in the King's Tournament; Oakren died on the third night, and the two survivors were cast out to the slums while the King told the city they had volunteered as heroes. She had found her voice as a child in the chantry, and her sense of having been abandoned by the Light runs through the book.
The story opens a year after Oakren's death, with Fi and Usso alone in the cold Dwarven Hearth. When the wounded Tragus Halmund begged for help and was dragged away by the King's elite guard, Fi resolved to act. At Oakren's grave, Orwen Strom asked them to recover her brother's sword, Velorith, from the Radiant bank before it was sold. While earning coin, Fi shielded the bleeding boy Eamon from the guards and fought the plague-twisted creature that had been his father, raising an Old Speak ward and finally driving her sword through its skull. To pay for Ferrin Stonecleaver's vault plans, she and Usso settled his debt with Shen at Moonlit Serenity, where Fi was drugged and humiliated before Shen's patrons. The ordeal left her raw and questioning whether the Light had ever known her, and Usso's steady support helped her carry it.
With Ferrin she broke into the Radiant, recovered Velorith and helped free the Fae Kara and Iskander, who were being drained beneath the bank to power the city's lights. She then entered the King's Tournament to finish what Oakren never could. Orwen gave her blessing for Fi to carry the sword, asking that she carry Ren's wish for justice rather than revenge, and the illusionist Fate Mistwreath disguised the blade as a plain tourney sword. On the eve of her fights Fi swore a personal vow in Old Speak against the tyrant.
In the high bracket she defeated the templar Alesund Moonspear, who yielded to her. In the final she faced Alerion Solastis, the prince who had killed Oakren, reciting her vow as she fought. She held Velorith at his throat and demanded he yield; instead he stabbed her with a concealed dagger, and she drove the sword through his golden breastplate and killed him. Astarion slowed her bleeding and carried her from the arena, and King Aurelion proclaimed her the victor.
As she lay gravely wounded, Balorin found a ritual that could tear the demons from Eamon but required a willing soul to anchor them. Fi chose to be that soul, telling Usso he had given her a family when the Light threw her away. During the ritual in the Lightspire, the possessed Eamon hurled her into the Eye of Luna; she opened her eyes long enough to mouth her thanks to Usso before the light took her. In the epilogue she woke at the crossing of realms before Charon the ferryman, who offered her a return to the living if she would mend the rift torn above Luna. She accepted the coin and the task.

After the books
Champion of Luna. Dies before the end of the books. After the Scorched Sky, Fi is no longer a presence, only a verdict. Her name is carried in whispers and rally-cries alike: saint to some, warning to others, and proof that exile can still decide the fate of kings.
