Terms of Service

These terms apply when you use this website, create or use a Lightspire account, or play Lightspire online. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data.

1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms

The website and Lightspire online services are run by Ethereal Realms Entertainment ("we", "us"), the trading name of Joshua Longworth, a sole trader based in England. You can contact us at info@etherealrealms.co.uk.

By creating an account or using our online services you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not create an account or use the online services. You can still browse the website.

2. Who can have an account

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create a Lightspire account.
  • If you are under 18, you should have permission from a parent or guardian, and they should read these terms with you.
  • The information you give us, including your date of birth and email address, must be accurate.
  • Each person may hold one account unless we agree otherwise. Accounts are personal and may not be sold, shared or transferred.

3. Keeping your account secure

You are responsible for keeping your password and any linked sign-in accounts (Google, Microsoft, Apple or Steam) secure, and for activity on your account. Use a password unique to Lightspire and tell us straight away at info@etherealrealms.co.uk if you think someone else has accessed your account.

4. Usernames and conduct

Your username is visible to other players. Usernames must not impersonate anyone, including us, or be offensive, hateful, sexual or misleading. We may change or remove a username that breaks these rules.

When using the website and online services, you must not:

  • cheat, exploit bugs, or use bots, scripts or modified clients to gain an advantage in online or ranked play;
  • deliberately lose, collude or share accounts to manipulate rankings or rewards;
  • harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against other players or us;
  • try to access accounts, systems or data that are not yours, or disrupt, overload or probe the security of our services;
  • copy, scrape, reverse engineer or resell our services or content except as the law allows; or
  • use the services for anything unlawful.

Community spaces such as our Discord and social channels also have their own rules and the platform's own terms.

5. Cards, progress and other in-game items

Cards, decks, experience, ranks, essence, ratings and other items or progress linked to your account are part of the game and are licensed to you for use in Lightspire. They are not your property, have no monetary value, and cannot be exchanged for money or transferred outside the game.

To keep the game balanced and working, we may adjust, rebalance, reset or remove items, rewards, rankings or progress, for example after fixing a bug, correcting an error or at the start of a new ranked season.

6. Purchases, the demo and development builds

  • Lightspire: Cards is sold and distributed through Steam. Purchases, refunds and downloads through Steam are governed by the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Valve's refund policy.
  • Lightspire books bought through Amazon or other retailers are governed by that retailer's terms.
  • The free demo, playtests and development builds are provided so you can try the game and give feedback. They may contain bugs, change significantly, or be withdrawn, and progress in them may not carry over.
  • Development updates, captures and art studies shown on this website illustrate work in progress. They are not a promise of final features, content or dates.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for digital content.

7. Feedback

If you send us ideas, bug reports or feedback, you agree that we may use them to improve Lightspire without owing you payment or credit. This does not apply to work you create as part of a separate written collaboration agreement with us, which will be governed by that agreement.

8. Our content

Lightspire, Ethereal Realms, and the games, books, characters, artwork, music, logos, text and code on this website and in our services belong to us or our licensors. You may share links to our pages and post screenshots or videos of your own play for non-commercial purposes, and for monetised video or streaming, provided you do not suggest you are endorsed by us. Anything else needs our written permission.

9. Availability of the services

We are a small independent studio. We work to keep the website and online services available, but we cannot promise they will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or retire features or services, including online or ranked play, and will give reasonable notice where we can.

10. Suspending or closing accounts

You can close your account at any time by emailing info@etherealrealms.co.uk from the address linked to it.

We may suspend or close an account, reset its progress or remove it from ranked play if it breaks these terms, puts other players or our services at risk, or if the law requires it. Where appropriate we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. If we decide to close the online services entirely, we will give account holders at least 30 days' notice by email where possible.

11. Our responsibility to you

If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, or for business losses, as our services are for domestic and private use.

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for breaching your statutory rights as a consumer.

Links to other websites and services, such as Steam, Discord, social networks and retailers, are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content or how they operate.

Our videos are published on YouTube. By watching or interacting with them on YouTube you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the games and services change. We will revise the date at the top of this page, and if a change significantly affects your rights we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect. If you keep using your account after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply. If you do not agree, you can close your account.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts, and if you live elsewhere you keep any protections your local consumer law gives you. If you have a problem, please contact us at info@etherealrealms.co.uk first so we can try to put it right.
