Brynna Wolfmere

Brynna represents the domestic labour and long memory that make a clan more than its fighters.

In The Highlander

Brynna Wolfmere is Dagna's mother, an elder of Wolfmere Pass whose care arrives as insults, blankets and food forced on survivors. She met the Red Stair patrol at the gate, counted every face twice and scolded Frey for losing a glove before embracing him. Standing on an overturned barrel, she presided over the pass court that returned shame to a size people could carry, sentencing Harl to carry water and Eira to obey her healer.

She taught the children emergency splints, ran the snow eel run as punishment for their mock containment oath, and brought them back the next day so the place would not remember them only screaming. She inventoried Wolfmere's stores for Branok's clerks with open suspicion, and later threw his official stake into the gorge when Wolfmere refused central command. She also visited the injured watchwoman Runa Ironvale.

When Dagna fell in the duel with Torin Steelvein, Brynna arrived late, touched her daughter's brow and said "Show off", releasing the pass into laughter through grief. She told the law to stand outside her gate, poured the basin of Dagna's blood onto common dirt so it could claim no meaning, carried the second stone of the cairn, and told Eira not to answer Branok that day. She gave Eira the crude wolf charm Dagna had carved as a child, made her take an unfinished axe haft and an absurd fish-shaped dagger, and refused to let Dagna become perfect in lazy mouths. The book leaves her grieving and defiant at Wolfmere.
