Tovin Firehand

Tovin Firehand is old Phoenix heat under adult control: scarred hands, steady breath, and enough history with Mera to make intimacy look like craft rather than accident.

In The Channeler

Tovin Firehand is a Phoenix of Luminglade and Mera Firehand's partner of many years. Nyssa glimpsed the two of them together and saw in their steady, practised shared fire what the younger generation had never been taught. When the poisoned Hush came to light, Tovin burned three false seals open with a needle-flame delicate enough to impress even Mera, and when Mera turned to him he was already packing knives.

He went with Mera into the Lower Sanctum, arriving with Sanctum blood on his sleeve, and took the foot of Maerin's litter as the trap closed. During the escape he hauled prisoners from the cells by the handful. After Nyssa's death he carried her body up through the collapsing underways and out into the Festival court, holding her gently as the changed dawn rose.

After the books

Helps carry Nyssa's body and the freed prisoners out of Luna's underways. Tovin helps pull survivors out of the Lower Sanctum and carries grief without pretending it is lighter than it is.
