Edda begins by naming Hess Marrow as a person rather than an incident.

Appearance

Edda is sixty according to the parish ledger and older according to her hands.

In The Godless Priest

Witness Mother Edda accompanied Cassian to Hess Marrow's house in the book's opening scene, reciting Hess's name, age and history and making the Crowbrook gesture of refusing an unseen hand. When the thing inside Hess used her voice to accuse her of leaving her youngest son by the canal, she answered with the correction that mattered, that her son had been seven, not six, and the specificity held. She pinned Hess's freed wrist to the wall with her nursery hammer, then carried Orra and led the three children from the room, answering their calls for their mother with all three of their names.

At Black Mercy she settled the children in the nursery, did not stop Bram from striking Cassian, and afterwards washed his blood from Bram's fingers. The kindness ledger later recorded her washing the blood from the wardrobe.
