Miri's needs are used by hostile systems as a future-support calculation.

In The Godless Priest

Miri is a dealer's daughter of about nine, who was trapped beneath a collapsed stall during the riot in the Saintweed Market. A Hunger voice took her crushed lower leg, growing insect-like limbs inside it and promising she would never be crushed again; when Oren pointed out that it did not know where she wanted to go, she told Ravel to cut. Bellad's questioning of the severed leg led to Darian Venn's death. Miri refused her father's apology, since it was his teeth that had bitten the wood, received the last pure dose of poppy at Black Mercy, and labelled her preserved leg "Miri's leg. Not Miri."

She used the leg to shame the market into creating safe lanes, then took it back when the council tried to keep it. She devised handprint inspections that expired at the next bell, listed adulterants rather than certifying purity, let harmed customers suspend marks, and stamped Pella's and Cress's names on the market's first demon-informed test. She remained in Crowbrook, criticising Kem's crutch rhythm as the army departed.

After the books
